How To Tell The Sharks From The Fishes

About two years ago I received tickets to a FREE Internet
marketing seminar. Not knowing everything about Internet
Marketing, I decided to attend; after all, it was free.
The FREE seminar consisted of a two-hour sales pitch for the
"real seminar" presented by professional "suits". They were
selling a one-day marketing seminar that promised to turn me into
a Certified Internet Marketing Consultant.
The REAL seminar cost almost $3,000, and in essence told
people to call every business in their local yellow pages to sell
them costly classified ads in the company's own Internet Mall.
The company got most of the money and did none of the work.
There was no real value in the ads.
Yesterday I received another similar offer via snail mail.
I received two FREE tickets to a free dinner and marketing
seminar at a local hotel. After some research, I discovered it
was a similar opportunity only operating under a different name.
They were well funded, and made their presentation in the
most expensive conference rooms in town. Sharks like this are
presenting their offers all over the country and on late night TV
infomercials. I am sure someone is making money but I honestly
don't know how they sleep at night.
It's getting harder to know who you are dealing with today.
Forget about making easy money, instead consider the following
criteria to evaluate home business opportunities.
How Did You Discover The Opportunity?
One way to determine if an opportunity is right to consider
is how the offer first comes to your attention. In other words,
how were you targeted? Many offers come to us simply because we
have an email address, others because of a group membership or an
interest in a related subject. The truth is, often we discover
the best opportunities while doing something we doing free. Your
passion and belief in the value of the product or service
determines if you will stick with it.
What Do You Bring To The Table?
No single business opportunity is right for everyone. Quick
buck artists will usually tell you that "anyone can do it", if
everyone could do it they wouldn't need you.
Ask yourself is if you have the personality and background
experience to fit in. Some folks do better selling services, and
others with products. The most important asset you can bring to
the table is your experience, passion and determination.
All That Glitters Is Not Gold?
There are all kinds of scams, Some of the most successful
take you in by diverting you attention. They focus on what you
might GET not what you GIVE.
Many multi-level marketing scams and affiliate programs
often focus their pitch on the best possible paycheck. They
downplay the fact that nearly everyone on Earth must join your
downline in order to get that check.
Others focus on how your success will come through the great
downline they will build for you. If they could really build
that downline, why do they need you? If it sounds to easy or too
good to be true; guess what?
Fool's Gold
Fool's Gold glitters like real gold but has no real value.
Test the evidence rather than blindly accept the hype. If there
is real substance behind the opportunity, you will be able to
find proof. Before you invest your valuable time and money check
the testimonials. Don't assume that because someone else was
successful that you will too. See if you can talk to people who
have failed or moved on, their experience may be even more
enlightening, it may or may not be similar to yours.
Don't assume that because the opportunity appears to be well
funded that the opportunity will be profitable. Do they earn
money even if you don't? Some of the biggest scams are perfectly
legal and practiced openly. Some of the biggest Internet sharks
are the merchant banks and fortune 500 companies that profit
through our failure.
The 300 Dollar Solution?
For years now I have suggested applying the following
formula to the evaluation of any business opportunity. In short,
what is required to earn $300.
You can use any number you like, but the theory is to turn
any income claim into something solid you can evaluate. First,
estimate the amount of time and effort required to earn the first
$300. Next, look at the requirements to earn $300 in a month, a
week, and a day.
This process will make it clear to you if the business
opportunity will have any real chance of success. Some
opportunities will require your skills, others your time, and
still others your specific expertise. Ultimately you need all
three.
The Old Fashioned Way
Trust is a gift that is accepted, never forced and never
expected.
Never blindly trust any Internet business opportunity make
them earn your trust the old fashioned way.
Sharks are fish too; often they get our trust by blending in
with the other fish. They depend on diverting our attention
before taking a big bite. Once they bite it can't be taken back.
Our ability to trust is the damage done. When you find a shark
tell others, don't give them the opportunity to swim free.
Thousands of people ARE earning a LOT of money on-line and
there is no reason you and I can't do the same. The truth is if
you think you CAN, you're right and if you think you CAN'T you're
also right.
